What is the NFL player guessing game?
It is AllStar Grid's free daily "guess the NFL player" game. It plays like a word puzzle, but the hidden answer is a player: you get eight guesses, and after each one the tiles show which facts match — team, division, position, jersey number, height, age and draft year — from real 2025 roster facts in the public nflverse dataset. Everyone gets the same player on the same UTC day.

How to play
- Type a player's name and pick it from the list. The surname alone also works.
- Read the tiles: green is a match, orange is close, and arrows point toward the answer's number, height, age or draft year.
- Stuck? Reveal another clue, such as the college or the draft round. You have eight guesses.
- When the round ends you see the player, their facts and, where a free-licence photo exists, their picture.
Want more? Unlimited mode deals a new player every round, hard mode hides a retired legend, and the player pages cover 3,226 players (1,788 with a credited free photo).
Questions
Is AllStar Grid free?
Yes. Every game runs in your browser and nothing is charged. There is no account and no download — you can play the daily puzzle and every other mode without signing up.
How do the coloured tiles work?
Every guess is compared with the hidden player. Green means the value matches, orange means it is close (same division, same side of the ball, or within a few numbers, inches or years) and an arrow points toward the answer when a number is higher or lower.
Where do the player facts come from?
Player, roster and team facts come from nflverse, a public dataset published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Photos, shown only after a round ends, are free-licence files from Wikimedia Commons with the photographer credited. Team logos are trademarks of their respective teams, shown to identify them (logos via TheSportsDB).
What time does the daily puzzle change?
The puzzle is picked from the calendar date in UTC, so it changes at midnight UTC for everyone at the same moment. Unlimited mode is not tied to the date.
Do I need to spell the whole player name?
No. Start typing and pick the player from the list, or type the surname on its own. Accents and punctuation are ignored, so a missing apostrophe will not cost you the win.
Is this the official NFL game?
No. AllStar Grid is an independent game built from public roster data. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the NFL, its teams or its players. Team and player names are used to identify the facts being asked about.
Is this the real Wordle?
No. NFL Wordle is our own Wordle-style game: you guess an NFL player, not a word, in eight tries, and the tiles compare football facts instead of letters. It is not affiliated with The New York Times or Wordle.
